Dark Magik
A downloadable Dark Magik
Dark Magik is a single-player RPG built in the old tradition — the one where the world was indifferent, your bags were heavy, and getting somewhere dangerous was half the achievement.
No level-scaling. No quest markers dragging you by the collar. A zone is as dangerous as it is, whoever walks into it.
Your companions serve the god of hate
You carry two of them. Spite, a sentient sword. Grimm, a sentient book. Both are animate, both fight beside you, and both are powered by the god of hate — who has an interest in seeing you grow strong.
What the god does not know is what they're actually teaching you.
They are not followers. They have their own agenda, and it runs directly against the power that made them.
What it is
A tab-target RPG with the systems that era actually ran on, and that most modern RPGs quietly dropped:
- Threat and aggro — a real per-target threat table, not a proximity check
- Encumbrance and nested bags — inventory as a decision, not a spreadsheet
- Faction standing — who you've helped decides who'll talk to you
- Corpse recovery — death costs something
- Merchants, banking, crafting — an economy you participate in, not a vendor button
- Living companions — Spite and Grimm fight, level and argue; command them directly (follow, stay, defend, aggressive, target)
- Dialogue and quests — hand-authored, not generated
- Day/night — the world keeps its own time
Where it is right now
In development, and honest about it — there's no playable build here yet.
The download on this page is a wallpaper pack, not the game.
The systems layer is deep and running: combat, threat, skills, spells, quests, dialogue, companions, factions, crafting, banking, merchants and saving are all built and working. What's being built now is the world they live in — a forest, the sewers beneath it, a town, bandit camps, ruins.
This page exists so there's somewhere to follow the work. Devlogs will go up as zones come together, and a playable demo will land here first.
